Dr. Rambabu Surabattula is a biomedical scientist and clinical biomarker expert with extensive experience in the biopharmaceutical and academic research sectors. He is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher and Lead for Clinical Biomarker Development at the University Medical Center Mainz, Germany, where he has been actively involved in translational research. His work focuses on the identification, validation, and clinical translation of non-invasive serum biomarkers for chronic liver diseases, metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD/NASH), inflammatory bowel disease, and autoimmune disorders. He has played a key role in designing and implementing biomarker strategies for diagnosis, prognosis, patient stratification, and therapy monitoring. His research achievements include the discovery of multiple novel serum biomarkers using advanced proteomic platforms such as SomaScan and Olink, and the establishment of robust biomarker panels for liver fibrosis and disease progression.
Dr. Surabattula has profound expertise in protein production and purification, custom antigen and antibody generation, epitope screening, and high-sensitivity immunoassay development, including simplex and multiplex ELISAs, ELISpot, and ELLA platforms. He has independently developed highly sensitive custom ELISAs and contributed to mouse preclinical trials for antifibrotic and celiac disease therapies. He has coordinated large-scale collaborations with academic and industrial partners across Europe and the United States and has been actively involved in EU Horizon 2020 IMI-funded biomarker programs.
Dr. Surabattula has authored 17 peer-reviewed research articles, multiple review papers, and has presented his work at leading international conferences, including EASL, AASLD, DDW, ECM, and UEG Week. His contributions have been recognized with several honors, including the Award of Excellence (2022) for liver fibrosis biomarker research and the AASLD Presidential Poster of Distinction. He currently serving as a joint reviewer for JHEP, Hepatology and Gut, and reviewer for Frontiers in Medicine, Biomarker research etc.
